Series 2, Lightcore and so on

Hello Portal Masters,

Today, let's have a look at the picture from the Skylanders Giants E3 trailer

(source: http://www.darkspyro.net/images/giants/array.jpg)

Ok, first of all, I already talked about (from left to right) New Earth Skylander, Light Core Prism Break, Light Core Er Series 2 Cynder, Crusher, Jet Vac, Bouncer, Shroomboom, New Water Skylader, Air Giant, Water Giant, Pop Fizz, Tree Rex, New undead skylander and all the green base figures.

So, as far as we see here, we get:

Double Trouble
Drill Sergeant
Chop Chop

Drobot
2nd Drobot (maybe one in Lightcore?)
3rd Drobot, but I think that's more a fan honor, who rebuilds skylanders
Hex (I would love her to be Lightcore)

Sonice Boom

Terafin
Trigger Happy
Whirlwind

Now, this migth all be series 2 skylanders, or Lightcore Version. Time will tell.

We also seem to get 2 more Legends (maybe 4 all up, to get one legend for each element)
Slambam                                                    Ignitor

There are people saying, this is not Slambam, but I think this is the only real possibility.
I admit, I oble see like three arms, but who else could it be?

Lastly, there are lots of rumours about the thing behind Terafin.

Of cource, I don't know who it is, but the only options seem to be the Tech Skylander (since it is the only one we haven't seen in this size or.... a red Pop Fizz.

I don't say it has to be Pop Fizz, but the design it really alike and I would be kind of dissappointed if the tech skylander would be that close in design.

But again, time will tell.

What do you think of the remodels? Will you get any?
Let me know in your comments!

Skylanders Giants: Series Two Skylanders

Hello guys,

Series 2 Skylanders a versions of Skylanders that have been in the first game.

They do have an additional power (I wonder if the Light Cores will also get that), the wow pow power and in some way, they seem to be able to switch between upgrade paths.
I personally am torn about the hole subject.

The changing of upgrad paths is great (althouhg I really wonder how that will work) and the additional power is nice. However, I don't want to buy a remodeled Skylander for each upcoming game.
So I hope they will think about that.

Another point I don't get: There will be 24 Series 2 Skylanders.
So 8 will not get remodeled. How did they chose these 8? I mean, ok, IF (i highly doubt that) 4 of the 8 get the Light Core Version (as I said, doubt that, I think based on Shroom Boom, Light Core will be 4 of the 24) then it would just be 4 missing. But what if these are my favourites? I mean, I would rahter have bout 32, with the promise they will work for future games and will not be reposed over an over again.
But getting all but 8 (I guess on of each element)? I don't get it.

I also wonder if the changing of paths, Wow Pow skills and stuff are available for the new Skylanders and the Giants.

But only time will tell.

So for now, let's have a look at the 2 characters, which have been official Series 2 skylanders (I know there are other pictures arround, but I will get to them in a different post, since it is not seen, if they are Series 2 or Light Core Characters).

The first who was shown was Zook.

(source: http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120301055207/spyro/images/1/19/Newzook.jpg)

I like his new version more than his series one, but I cannot really tell you why.

Let's see them next to each other:

I really don't know what it is. It must be the face...

Ok, the second one we have seen is Cynder.

 (source:http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120613145813/spyro/images/4/4d/New_cynder.jpg)

Our Dragon Lady looks really gorgeous.
Let's compare old Cynder with new Cynder:

I think, Cynder looks much more "grown-up" in the new version. I don't know.
The old one seemed cute, the new one more majestic in a way.

Cynder is also the first Skylander we've seen some of the new Power.

A litgtning out of the sky to smash enemies.
Ok, I am less than impressed, but who knows? Maybe it will be upgradeable to something amazing?
Destroying the ground and freeing 10 ghosts?
Ok, ok, I know, unlikely!

Well, that's it for now.

How do you like the Series two guys? I will say, I like the design and if you can switch upgrades, that's kind of cool, but Wow Pow (at least Cynders...) does not excite me that much.
And I still don't get why 8 get banned from remodeling.

Skylanders Giants: Light Core

Hey fellow Portal Masters,

today just a quick look at Light Core Skylanders.

So far, there have been 3 confirmed one and there should be8 in total.

So far we have seen:

Eruptor
(source: http://www.wired.com/geekdad/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/Image1.jpg)

Prism Break

 (source: http://www.trueachievements.com/customimages/007327.jpg)

and Shroomboom
(source: http://images.wikia.com/skylanders/images/d/d6/ShroomBoom_toy.jpg)

They said, there will be 8 Light Core Skylanders all up, 4 new ones and 4 remodeled once.
I would guess, they'll make one for each element.

Since we have Life, Earth and Fire, the ones missing would be:
Air, Water, Magic, Undead, Tech.

If I had to guess, I would say that neither Jet Vac nor Alchemist have a lot of Light Up potential.
So the new Water, Undead and Tech Skylander should light up.
For the old one, it leaves an Air Elemental and a Magic one.
Just on past creatures, I think Double Trouble and Whirlwind have the best chances to put light in.
But just pure speculation.

Another point is, it is not sure, if the Ligth Up Versions will also be released as Series 2 Skylanders.
In a way, it would be weired to have 3 versions of 1 Skylander.

And will the Light Cores get an additional Wow Pow Power? Will they be able to switch upgrade paths?
Or is it just the enter the battlefield ability?

I personaly don't like the enter the battlefield thing. I think I mentioned that in Shroombooms article, I want to use their powers, not just kill by entering.
Especially since it does not look that cool in game (don't get me wrong, the light up toys are great, but they should have done it like the Giants and include it on some characters wihtout making it another character line)

So we see Jet Leaving the game and getting exchanged with Prism Break

And when he enters he does the damages
Not that much of a wow effect for me.

What do you think? You will light up or who would you want to ligth up (I would love a light up Hex, Stealth Elf and Ignitor).

See you next time when we will talk about some Series two Skylanders.

Coming Up

Hello Portal Masters,

I just wanted to give some inside of my future plans:

I am currently working on Pop Fizz, the Series 2 Skylanders and the Lightcore Models.
I also try to get a General Information Post togther.

Anything anyone really likes to see/read?

I still don't know if I will do some posts about series 1 skylanders.
Would that be interesting?
Some feedback would be highly appreciated.

See you soon!

Skylanders Giants: Shroomboom

Hello Portal Master,

Let's look at another new Skylander together - Shroomboom..
Ok, the name is kind of weired, so let's see the character behind it (so far, I only found the toy).

(source: http://oneofswords.com/images/e32012/e32012_05.jpg)

I really like small and crazy characters and he seem to be just that.

Now, Shroomboom is the first of the new skylanders that has been seen in "normal" toy form and as the new lightcore character.

(source: http://images.wikia.com/skylanders/images/d/d6/ShroomBoom_toy.jpg)

I do like both of his versions, they seem funny and the glowing is nice.
But I'm still not sure about light core... why do I want a character two times. I know, they have the enter the game ability but call me crazy, I like using the skylanders to beat the monsters. I don't want a light to do it...
But I have to see.. I know myself so I will probably buy them both anyway..
But I will do another post on this issue (also about the series 2 skylanders).

So let's focus on Shroomboom's powers.

So, he shoots mushrooms. Kind of obvious from his toy, but I still think it is kind of fun.
I mean, of course we had characters doing similar things (Boomer, Flameslinger, Zook...)
But it still seems nice.

The second thing I saw, which seems also to have to do with the the sling shot was this:

He shoot the mushrooms in the air, the come down like parachutes and explode into some (maybe toxi) gas.
I like this, because I don't think we have seen this before. I wonder if the gas does something.

The second (or third) attack, is shooting himself

The look is really cooll, but the effect seems to be the same as Wrecking Balls.

His last ability is a circle of Melons, ah I mean Mushrooms....
Now, where have we seen that before (apart from that video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDsd_c-feCg&list=PL20F31FA1A7A405A1&index=10&feature=plcp)

I mean, it reminds me a lot of Camo.

Hm, so I am not sure. Shroomboom, although original in design seems to copy lots of abilities.
I don't think there is a lot we have not seen before.

Let's rate:
Looks: 5/5
Orignality: 1/5 (based on powers more than design)
Powers: 3/5
Variety: 3/5
Overall Rating: 3/5

Oh Shroomboom. Although I want to like this guy a lot, he just seems a little boring.
Soooo sorry! Maybe I will change my mind as soon as you are in my collection!?

We will see!

What do you think? Has he shot his way into your hearts? Let me know!

Skylanders Giants: Jet Vac

Hello Portal Masters,

After all the Giants, today let's have a closer look at one of the new regular skylanders:
Jet Vac.

(source: http://images.wikia.com/spyro/images/f/fb/Jet_Vac_Promo.jpg)

Ok, another air bird after Sonic Boom. Well, why not, they seem different enough (I know, Sonic Boom is not really a bird)

His toy looks cool:

(source: http://media.giantbomb.com/uploads/0/176/2227936-007325.jpg)

So, yeah overall not bad.

His story:
Jet-Vac was the greatest, most daring flying ace in all of Windham. He was given his magical wings when he was young, as was the tradition for all Sky Barons. But when his homeland was raided, he chose to sacrifice his wings to a young mother so she could fly her children to safety. This act of nobility caught the attention of Master Eon, who sought out the young Sky Baron and presented him with a gift - a powerful vacuum device that would allow him to soar through the skies once again. Jet-Vac accepted the gift with gratitude, and now daringly fights evil alongside the other Skylanders.

I like, that he sacrificed his flying. Such a good person.

Let's now see the powers.

First of, is his canon (kind of obvious)

So he can shoot air. Funny that no Air Skylander did that so far (Warnado Tornado, but that was really different). But still, just shooting is, just allright.

His second ability is his vacuum.

I like that you can suck in enemies and options. It's something new that we haven't seen on any skylanders before. So I really like that.

Unfortunately his third ability is kind of lame. It is flying (like most air skylanders) but since he sacrificed his wings, he uses his vacuum making it more like Gill Grunts limited flying.

In the a video preview (source: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIWPxqi3Yao) it is said, that he will get some abitlities based on his flying.

Although none seemed to be available at E3 a previous movie showed more powers.
A melee attack.

And a spinning attack:

See him in motion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBIc_7dPfL0

I don't know if they all still exist or if he just got changed till E3. Time will tell.

I will include all powers in my judgment.

Looks: 5/5
Orignality: 4/5
Powers: 3/5
Variety: 4/5
Overall Rating: 4/5

So overall I really look forward to Jet Vac, although his powers are not super super exciting, but still, he brings something new to the table.

What do you think?! Let me know and c u soon!

Skylanders Giants: Bouncer

Hello Portal Masters,

After the Crusher and Tree Rex, today it is time to focus on the last Giant that we've seen in play so far: Bouncer, the Tech Giant.

(source: http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/470228_10151035315593623_1441129389_o.jpg)

Ok, yeah, kind of fun with the one wheel, seems a fun character.

In toy form, he also looks pretty cool:

(source: http://images.wikia.com/spyro/images/f/fc/Bouncer_toy_figure.jpg)

I like, that his core and his eyes light up. Maybe he is a little too cool for school.
I don't know, the football and the pistol finger...
On the edge of beeing too cheesy.
But still alright (I don't hate him, i am just not sure...)

Since he was in many E3 videos, let's have a look at his powers.

Ok, first power: he shoots with his pistol fingers.
Ok, there is nothing to say to that. Kind of expected and a little too close to Trigger Happy's power...
Especially since the bullets fly of walls if you upgrade him further... (seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouG6q45jKK0&feature=plcp)

Second power: Shoulder Rocets

Ok, so he shoots rockets out of his shoulders. Hm, not the most excting power either and it seems really slow.. Although he can shoot multiple and target pretty wide areas

His last power, as far as I saw, Laser Eyes

All Giants seem to get ways to make a 360 degree attack in some form...
I do like this power the best, but it does not seem totally amazing, just kind of cool.
I like that he overheats. It's a funny side effect.

So, let's get to the rating

Looks: 3/5
Orignality: 4/5
Powers: 2/5
Variety: 2/5
Overall Rating: 2.75/5

Ok, that was rating did not go to well for Bouncer.
His power just don't do it for me and his look.. not really amazing.
I still will try him out and who knows? Maybe he will end up my beeing my favourite.

What do you think? Will you deel with the wheel?

C U next time!

Skylander Giants: New Earth Skylander

Hello fellow Portal Masters,

Let's just have a short look at the New Earth Skylander previewed in the Giants Trailer:

 (source: http://www.darkspyro.net/images/giants/array.jpg)

Ok, he looks like a dragon, but I am not sure... In a way I hope he is not, since Bash is already the Earth Dragon. But he has wings, so he seems really dragon-like...
Poor Bash, if he can fly, it will break his little stone heart...
I also think his colours (blue/purple) seem a little girly... I don't know.

(BTW: The green thing on the wing is Prism Breaks Crystal in case you wondered)

How do you like him? Do you think he will be a good addition to the Earth Skylander Team?

C U next time!

Charon

UPDATE: His/her name might be Flashwing.

Skylander Giants: Tree Rex

Hello Portal Masters,

When Skylanders: Giants was first announced, only one Giant was previewed. It was the Life Skylander Giant Tree Rex. Today, lets have a closer look at him.

First his art work:

(source: http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120604215623/skylanders/images/thumb/e/e6/Tree_Rex_Artwork.jpg/290px-Tree_Rex_Artwork.jpg)

Wow, he seems like a pretty impressive dude. Although he is woody as Stump Smash, he looks really different and captures the life essence quiet well.

His toy also is stunning:
(source: http://media.giantbomb.com/uploads/0/176/2227933-007322.jpg)

Especially when his eyes light up, he really comes to life. And I think his horns are just cool.

The story:
Long ago before the Giants protected Skylands, Tree Rex was a majestic tree living peacefully in the ancient woods. But this tranquil peace came to an end when the Arkeyans built a nearby factory to produce war machines. After years of his soil being poisoned by the magic and tech waste from the factory, he mutated into who he is now - a powerful Giant who will crush anything that threatens the natural order of things.

The Arkeyans are really playing a big role in the game.

Ok, let's now have a look at the powers:

First we have hi Giant Right hand smashing the opponents:

Yeah, ok, very basic melee, not enough to excite me.

Second is his Charge attack.

Ok, so he can crush and charge...
Based on what I have seen in the trailers, he also seems to be able to combine them into a combo:

As always, I don't know how good you can really see it all on the pics. To see him in motion go to
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1V7b0AQu_Tk

What is happening: He charges and than jumps to smash the ground.
I like this attack more but I wasn't a big fan of the combos in Skylanders.
They seemed rather difficult to me.

Coming to his last attack (as far as I found it)

He shootsa little light bubles out of his arm, although in other sequences it seems more a beem than single shots.
Who knows... maybe an upgrade?!

Let's go to a vote about Tree Rex.

Looks: 4/5
Orignality: 4/5
Powers: 2/5
Variety: 3/5
Overall Rating: 3.25/5

Tree Rex was the first Giant Ever, but in comparison to Crusher, I think his powers are a little Boring, although I like his Design a little better.
But who knows, maybe I will like him more once I actually played him...

What do you guys think? Does the Life Giant impress you?

Let me know!

C U soon!
